Midsummer’s Music Welcomes New Board Member

Award-winning pianist William Koehler begins his first term as a board member.

Midsummer’s Music draws on the wisdom, experience, and guidance from individuals who comprise the board of directors. Board members typically exhibit a special, continued dedication to Midsummer’s Music through their support for the organization, musicians, and staff. Midsummer’s Music welcomes William Koehler, who recently began his initial three-year term.

Long-time Midsummer’s Music followers will recognize Koehler, who was the organization’s original pianist 34 years ago. Koehler performed with Midsummer’s for 28 years until his retirement in 2018. A native of Houston, TX, he is Professor Emeritus at Northern Illinois University, where he taught piano from 1985 to 2014. He studied with Moreland Roller, Adele Marcus, and William Race, and his awards include first prizes in the 1984 San Antonio International Keyboard Competition and the 1989 New Orleans International Piano Competition. Koehler received his D.M.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1986.

Koehler expressed his excitement about joining the Midsummer’s Music board: “It’s a privilege to join the board of Midsummer’s Music, to learn more about its scope and vision, and to share in its efforts to maintain the organization’s high level of artistic accomplishment and community outreach.”

Midsummer’s Music thanks Nancy Borghesi, whose board term recently expired, for her years of service, including important contributions as treasurer.

Midsummer’s Music celebrates 34 years of bringing chamber music to Door County in 2024. The summer season of concerts begins June 13 and runs through September 2. Additional concerts continue into September, and the second annual Autumn Music Fest runs in October. Visit www.midsummersmusic.com as schedule details are updated.

Midsummer’s Music was co-founded in 1990 by Jim and Jean Berkenstock, long-time Door County summer residents and principal orchestral players with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. What began as two concerts among friends has become one of the Midwest’s most anticipated chamber music series, bringing thousands of chamber music enthusiasts from around the globe to the magical Door County Peninsula.
