SUMMARY:Griffon Winter Retreat • Door County
DESCRIPTION:The Griffon String Quartet welcomes Sonora Suzuki Strings of Madison for its second annual Winter Retreat\, with exhibitions for local students\, practice sessions\, a pizza party\, and a public concert. \nSuzuki Strings of Madison will perform for students at Gibraltar School in Fish Creek on the morning of January 5. A stimulating instrumental workshop follows\, including performances by Griffon string quartet musicians and students from Suzuki Strings of Madison. A captivating instrument petting zoo will allow the Gibraltar students an excellent opportunity to touch and experiment with violins\, violas\, and cellos under the supervision and guidance of professional musicians. \nLater the same day\, Suzuki Strings of Madison students\, Griffon students\, and community members will gather at Hope United Church of Christ in Sturgeon Bay\, WI\, for music games and a play-in\, plus a pizza dinner party for the students. \nOn the morning of January 6\, 2024\, at Hope Church\, the retreat will feature instructive performance classes for students\, followed by a community concert at 1:00pm with Suzuki Strings of Madison and Griffon string student. SUMMARY:Beneath the Waves CD Release Concert & Reception • Eric Lewis and the Griffon String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Beneath the Waves is a collection of instrumental tunes and songs written by Memphis-based musician Eric Lewis\, along with the addition of “Salt Creek\,” a traditional fiddle tune. Composer Sam Shoup of Memphis expertly provided the string arrangements. Lewis says\, “It has been a great desire of mine to collaborate with the Griffon String Quartet and Midsummer’s Music for some time now. It is a dream come true to perform this music with such high caliber musicians and to preserve it on record. The Griffon String Quartet really brings this music to life!” \nThe project’s title is also one of the recording’s instrumental pieces\, which was written following a trip to Rosemary Beach – on Florida’s panhandle – where Lewis scattered his parents’ ashes. Later\, when recording an early demo in Memphis\, Lewis discovered a midi patch for a virtual instrument called “Beneath the Waves.” It was clear that would be the name of the piece.
