Piano

Kate Boyd has performed solo recitals at venues including Carnegie Hall in New York, Schubert’s birth house in Vienna, the National Concert Hall in Dublin, and the Musikhalle Hamburg. Her concerts and presentations have taken her across North America, Europe, Asia, and New Zealand.

Boyd has recorded two solo CDs: John Cage’s Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano—which has received critical acclaim and over 100,000 digital streams—and Music for the End of Winter, featuring first recordings of works by American composers.

A versatile musician comfortable with repertoire from the 17th century to the present, she was a founding member of the Oracle Trio, a New York-based ensemble that performed nationally for a decade. She regularly collaborates with other artists and remains active as a conference clinician, masterclass teacher, and adjudicator for competitions including the MTNA Southern Division and the ISSMA State Competition.

Boyd is Professor of Piano at Butler University, where she received the Outstanding Professor of the Year award in 2017. She was named Teacher of the Year by the Indiana Music Teachers Association in 2019. She also taught for 11 summers at the Interlochen Arts Camp and has served on the national Fulbright screening committee for piano.

Her educational YouTube channel, The Piano Prof, launched in 2021, has attracted over 26,000 subscribers to date. Boyd holds degrees from Stony Brook University, Oberlin Conservatory, and the Hannover Academy of Music, and studied with Gilbert Kalish, Arbo Valdma, and Arie Vardi.
