Jacob Beranek is a composer and pianist from Oconomowoc, WI, whose music has received recognition throughout Wisconsin, the Midwest, and the nation. Some of his recent accomplishments include winning the Dolce Suono Ensemble’s national 2017 Steven Stucky Young Composers Competition, the Project 21 Prize for Music Composition, the Wisconsin School Music Association Student Composition Project, and receiving 2nd Place in the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Composers competition. Jacob also has eight pieces published by Alliance Publications, Inc., and is a member of ASCAP. He is truly honored to be returning to Midsummer’s Music Festival, this time as composer-in-residence.
Besides composing, Jacob is a serious pianist who has earned many honors, including first place at the 2014, 2015, and 2016 Wisconsin Federation of Music Clubs State Festivals. Jacob also has an undeniable connection to Czech music due to his heritage and has had the privilege of studying music in Prague during visits in 2015 and 2017. Additionally, Jacob studied for three weeks at the 2016 Curtis Institute of Music’s Young Artist Summer Program in Philadelphia and regularly attended the Jr. Composers Institute in Minneapolis from 2012-2015. He currently studies composition privately with Ronald Foster.
Jacob graduated with honors from University Lake School in Hartland, WI, and will be attending Vanderbilt University next year to pursue a Bachelor of Music in Composition at the Blair School of Music. You can learn more about Jacob and his musical endeavors at www.beranekmusic.com.
